Living in LA

image

Student life at USC is enhanced by its location in the heart of downtown Los Angeles and the spectacular recreational opportunities offered by the city and greater Southern California. Whether it’s dining, dancing, attending plays or concerts, hiking, mountain-climbing, surfing, skiing, people watching, celebrity hunting, or garden strolling, the West Coast’s most vibrant city abounds in places and spaces to suit every taste and temperament, not to mention that famous LA sunny weather.

Los Angeles is one of the most dynamic and diverse places in the world. In the words of USC President Max Nikias, “the 224 languages that are spoken in this city, and the 115 nations represented today on this campus, are distinctly representative of a new world that is tilted toward the civilizations of the Pacific. A simple drive up Vermont Avenue does not simply show us a city. It displays to us the extraordinary span of Pacific Rim, in microcosm.”

Here’s what USC students say they like best about life in Los Angeles:

  • The weather
  • The beaches
  • Incredible cultural diversity
  • Sports and aerobic activities
  • The pulse of the city coupled with great escapes to nature
  • Bicycling on the beach’s boardwalks
  • Fantastic shopping options
  • Backpacking in the mountains
  • Small community playhouses featuring famous actors
  • Hollywood night clubs
  • A range of dining options, from world-class restaurants to every kind of takeout imaginable
  • Strolling on the Santa Monica Pier at sunset
  • The surprising choice of concerts, from Corelli to Pink Floyd
  • Seeing celebrities at the supermarket
  • All the museums
  • The Dodgers, the Lakers, the Sparks, the Kings
  • No matter what you want to do there’s a place to do it in L.A.!
