Director of Admissions Elizabeth Carley completed her undergraduate, master's and clinical doctorate degrees in occupational therapy at the University of Southern California. She has extensive experience providing occupational therapy mental health services to at-risk, economically disadvantaged youth and their families. She has also served as Occupational Therapy Coordinator for a community-based mental health agency, supervising other occupational therapists and coordinating service delivery for various community sites. Dr. Carley has co-authored a textbook chapter on the adolescent mental health and considers this her area of specialty.

This chapter will combine the knowledge gained by the authors through decades of working in the field with adolescents with emotional, behavioral, and mental health issues with currently available data and evidence-based information to guide effective and rewarding occupational therapy intervention with this population. Thus, in keeping with the principles that run through each edition, this chapter will rely on theoretical and clinical evidence.
