Trojan Family Weekend

USC’s Trojan Family Weekend will be held October 7-10, 2021 and offers multiple opportunities for you and your families.

Below is a list of USC Chan faculty presentations and you can view the full schedule here. We hope to see you there!

OCTOBER 7

Healthy Habits for a Well-Rested Trojan!
11:00 AM-11:50 AM
Ronald Tutor Campus Center (TCC), Room 227

Good sleep is a foundation for wellness. But too often students sacrifice sleep for academic, extracurricular, and social commitments. Join us to discover strategies for getting a good night’s rest and balancing healthy self-care routines with the responsibilities and opportunities of being a USC student. We’ll introduce you to campus resources such as the USC Occupational Therapy Faculty Practice that help students manage their schedules and lifestyle. Hear from occupational therapists about how a program called Lifestyle Redesign® can help build healthy daily routines that encourage good sleep and bring more energy to everyday life. These tips and tools work for everyone, not just students!

OCTOBER 8

Creativity for Life
1:30 PM-2:20 PM
Ronald Tutor Campus Center (TCC), Room 450

Unlock your creative potential in your day-to-day life to enhance health and achieve personal goals. Through engaging guided activities, you’ll hear from a trained occupational therapist about how to identify barriers to creative thinking, enhance problem-solving ability, and create plans for action. Regular engagement in creative activities has been linked with improved physical and mental health, increased brain function, and decreased stress and anxiety levels. Building a meaningful life, overcoming personal obstacles, and solving the pertinent problems of our time all require leveraging one’s creative potential.

Navigating the College Transition for Parents
2:30 PM-3:20 PM
Ronald Tutor Campus Center (TCC), Room 450

Connect with USC faculty, staff and other parents to discuss what it’s like to support students in their early years at USC. Hear from Director of Orientation Programs (and current USC parent) Lisa Tomlinson Starr and Professor Ashley Uyeshiro Simon about how the university helps students succeed and thrive. Hear real-life examples and lessons learned as parents reflect on “If I Knew Then What I Know Now.” Learn how things changed over the semester and hear from USC about what to expect moving forward. Family support is essential for the success of our students, but finding balance is key. We will share thoughts and resources to assist in gaining confidence in your role as an advocate for your student.

Emerging Adulthood: The In-Between Years
2:30 PM-3:20 PM
TBD

Delve into the recent developmental concept of “emerging adulthood.” Over the past few decades, the lives of individuals in their late teens and early twenties have changed dramatically, as have their expectations. This session will analyze the unique challenges emerging adults face and the important life skills they will need to develop in order to overcome adversity, achieve success, and be well.
