PKUHSC Students Present at CARM Annual Conference

The 1st cohort of students in the USC-PKUHSC dual-degree program present at the 4th Comprehensive Academic Annual Conference of the Chinese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine (CARM) on their experiences as OT students in the master’s program at PKUHSC.

The USC-Peking University Health Science Center (PKUHSC) dual-degree program officially welcomed its first cohort in September 2019. This graduate program is one of the first specializing in occupational therapy in China, as most rehabilitation therapy or occupational therapy practitioners in China are trained at an associate or bachelor’s level. The students at PKUHSC have chosen to further their occupational therapy education by enrolling in the PKUHSC master’s program, and many of them will continue in the dual-degree program by applying for the Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) program at USC.

In November 2020, the first cohort of PKUHSC students shared their experiences in the new program at the Occupational Therapy Subforum of the 4th Comprehensive Academic Annual Conference of the Chinese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine (CARM) and International Exhibition on Rehabilitation Technologies and Equipment in Beijing. Their presentation, “Sharing of Learning Experiences from Occupational Therapy Graduate Students in Peking University”, addressed their OT coursework and learning experiences toward meeting the program outcomes of Evidence-Based Practitioner, Leader, Innovator, and Social Contributor. The presentation was well-received by those in attendance, including Ms. Yanning Yan, President of the Chinese Occupational Therapy Association, who shared her anticipation and great hopes for these students as future leaders of occupational therapy in China.
