Susan Knox PhD, OTR/retired, FAOTA
Susan Knox, PhD, OTR/retired, FAOTA, received her master’s degree in occupational therapy and her PhD in occupational science from the University of Southern California. She worked as a pediatric occupational therapist for over 40 years.
She is the author of the Knox Preschool Play Scale, an assessment of developmental skills observed in play. The KPPS is the most used assessment of play by occupational therapists in the United States and internationally and it has been translated into many languages.
Susan received advanced training in sensory integration with Dr. A. Jean Ayres and was a research assistant in the development of the SIPT. Susan has lectured internationally on sensory integration, play, and autism and she has authored many chapters in OT books. She has received multiple awards from USC, the Occupational Therapy Association of California, the California Foundation for Occupational Therapy and AOTA.
She received the A. Jean Ayres award from AOTF. Susan was an officer on AOTA, OTAC, and CFOT executive boards and for many years was the California representative to the AOTA Representative Assembly. She joined the Board of Councilors in 2003 and is now an emerita member.
