Lifestyle Redesign®
Patient Care

USC occupational therapists with advanced training in Lifestyle Redesign provide services to patients with a variety of physical and mental health conditions throughout the Los Angeles area and beyond. Following the success of the first clinical trials utilizing Lifestyle Redesign, the USC Chan Division developed Lifestyle Redesign services in their private practice, the USC Occupational Therapy Faculty Practice. Initially providing Lifestyle Redesign for a limited number of service lines, including weight management and pain management, the early stages of practice focused on translating research into real world applications.

This early work established a pathway for documenting services, obtaining reimbursement, developing diverse applications of the Lifestyle Redesign intervention, and expanding the services to meet the needs of thousands of individuals. Over 20 years, Lifestyle Redesign has been provided at multiple sites of service, and with the adoption of telehealth, now reaches patients throughout the state of California. Lifestyle Redesign is provided by clinical practice faculty and doctoral residents to individuals across the lifespan with metabolic disorders, neurologic disorders, and mental health diagnoses.

Who Can Benefit from Lifestyle Redesign?

Lifestyle Redesign is appropriate for any person who has the capacity and motivation to alter their lifestyle, daily habits and routines to support their health and well-being. Lifestyle Redesign has been shown to have health benefits for both prevention and management of chronic conditions, among diverse populations, illustrating its broad applicability. Because Lifestyle Redesign can be applied broadly, it is considered a general intervention framework (rather than a specific intervention approach relevant only to a particular population) that can be adjusted in content or mode of delivery to meet the needs of specific settings and populations. At the USC Faculty Practice, numerous Lifestyle Redesign programs are offered to address a wide range of health needs, including chronic pain, diabetes, mental health, neurological conditions, and weight management.
