Overview

Welcome to the REAL-T Module Resources section! Here you’ll find a bunch of links to videos, articles, support groups, etc. that go along with other content in each module.

We will do our best to update the links in this section regularly, so feel free to let us know if you have any recommendations for resources to add! We can be reached via email at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). Here are some great resources to get started with; they cover content across multiple modules:

  • Beyond Type 1 has an abundance of resources for understanding type 1 diabetes and living life as someone with diabetes.
  • College Diabetes Network (CDN) offers digital support for newly diagnosed young adults, preparing for college, studying abroad, and many other topics. CDN also has chapters in schools across the country — you can even start a chapter at your school if one doesn’t exist!
  • Diabetes Strong has resources focusing on health, fitness, and nutrition as well as resources for diabetes products and technology support.
  • Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund (JDRF) has resources and forums addressing common questions and concerns for individuals with type 1 diabetes.
  • Type 1 Diabetes Exchange  is a “community that is accelerating promising research by seeking answers, sharing wisdom and offering support”. Glu, is an extension of this as an online community where individuals with type 1 diabetes can “connect, obtain information, and share data”.
  • Learning About Diabetes offers a wide range of informational worksheets and tips for living with diabetes, from healthy eating to getting organized with diabetes care.
  • The Type 1 Diabetes Self-Care Manual comes from the American Diabetes Association and serves as “a complete guide to type 1 diabetes across the lifespan for people with diabetes, parents, and caregivers.”

We Are Diabetes is an organization primarily devoted to providing support, education and awareness for people with type 1 diabetes who suffer from eating disorders.

From the ADA pages, you can often find links to other helpful articles such as “Eight Tips for Managing Diabetes Distress” with practical tips regarding diabetes burnout and diabetes distress.

The ADA has also recently developed a directory of mental health providers that understand diabetes.

The Mighty believes in the power of stories, the strength of communities and the beauty of the human spirit. They have streams that you can follow to see what people post and share. There is one for type 1 diabetes and another for diabetes generally.

Students With Diabetes
Similar to College Diabetes Network, Students With Diabetes has in person chapters are some of the same and some additional universities! Students with diabetes has a more in person presence than it does an online presence.

Kerri Sparling’s , Six Until Me is a first person account of life with diabetes. Kerri started the blog after getting frustrated by not being able to find any resources that spoke positively about life with diabetes.

Diabetes Mine is a community of individuals with diabetes that covers almost every facet of life with diabetes. They have facts about diabetes, tips for management, interviews and write-ups about celebrities with diabetes, as well as diabetes product reviews and research papers.

A Sweet Life
A Sweet Life was started by a couple, Mike and Jessica, after they were both diagnosed with T1D. Their blog features staples like diabetes-friendly recipes, diet tips, and news. They’ve also got a great sections for college students and young adults.
