Doing Lifestyle Redesign® Research
About Lifestyle Redesign Research
The Lifestyle Redesign Knowledge Mobilization Initiative (LR-KMI) receives many questions about how to conduct Lifestyle Redesign research, and inquiries related to potential research collaborations. To aid prospective researchers, we have developed guidelines and best practices for designing and carrying out Lifestyle Redesign research studies.
Lifestyle Redesign research encompasses a broad range of study designs and objectives, ranging from a small preliminary needs assessment to adapt Lifestyle Redesign for a new population to large-scale effectiveness trials. There are two core traits that define all Lifestyle Redesign research:
- The research is related to an intervention that meets the core characteristics of Lifestyle Redesign, as outlined in Pyatak et al. (2022); and
- The intervention connected with the research will be identified as Lifestyle Redesign in any public-facing materials or presentations.
Because the term Lifestyle Redesign can only be used by individuals who have an active Lifestyle Redesign Certification (LRC), research relating to Lifestyle Redesign also requires an LRC, whether as a full member of the research team or as a consultant. Similarly, any interventions delivered in the context of a research study must be provided by an LRC.1 The flowchart below provides guidance to researchers and identifies the extent of LRC involvement that is required for research to be considered Lifestyle Redesign.
