Emily Matsui OTD, OTR/L earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Occupational Science and her doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy both at the University of Southern California. She completed her doctoral capstone project in pedagogy with USC’s Occupational Science (OS) Minor Program, which involved the program development of OT 251 Across the Lifespan: Occupations, Health, and Disability. Her work focused on developing the course curriculum to better inform best pedagogical practices and the evolving needs of undergraduate students at USC.
Dr. Matsui is currently working as an inpatient acute care therapist at Keck hospital of USC. She has clinical experience working in acute care at UC Davis Medical Center during her Level II rotation, primarily working on the neurological unit. During her rotation, she delivered an in service to the rehabilitation team and developed a screening tool/therapist guide on addressing sex in acute care.
In addition to her academic and clinical roles, Dr. Matsui served as the chair of the Occupational Therapy and Science Council (OTSC) during her time in the e-OTD program. She spearheaded the development of the “Buddy Program” which served as a mentorship program for the entry-level OTD class, with 200 participants, to foster peer mentoring, networking, professional development, and camaraderie among the Division as a whole. Through her service with OTSC, she was on a leadership panel hosted by OTAC as a representative of USC’s OTSC/SOTA organization, along with representatives from SJSU and CSUDH.
