USC Chan Archive
Reading Room Guidelines
The second floor archive/reading room contains copies of OS/OT student dissertations and theses dating back to the 1940s
The Reading Room at the Chan Archive is the space dedicated to viewing archival materials and collections. Because our collections comprise of rare and unique materials that cannot be easily replaced, the following guidelines have been established to provide public access while ensuring their protection and preservation. Researchers are asked to observe these guidelines while using the Reading Room.
Using the Reading Room
- Researchers must produce some form of official photographic identification upon arrival, such as a USC ID or a valid driver’s license.
- Food, drinks, chewing gum, tobacco, smoking, vaping, and pets are not allowed in the Reading Room.
- Researchers must leave coats, bags, backpacks, and other personal items in the hallway or the locked hallway closet.
- Pencils must be used when taking notes.
- All cell phones must be in silent or vibrate mode while in the Reading Room.
- The use of personal computers, tablets, cameras, or phones is allowed as long as they do not harm the archival materials. For example, flash must be turned off when using a camera.
- Materials being consulted must not leave the Reading Room.
