Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my courses will transfer?
USC provides institution-specific Transfer Planning Guides that identify courses that may satisfy writing, general education, foreign language, and prerequisite requirements.
Do I need to finish all prerequisites before applying?
No. Students may apply while completing prerequisite coursework. However, completing key courses such as Human Anatomy with Lab before transfer is strongly recommended.
Which courses must be taken at USC?
Certain university requirements must be completed at USC and cannot be satisfied through transfer coursework. These include the General Education (Core Literacy) requirements, the Upper-Division Writing Requirement (WRIT 340), and upper-division major coursework completed in residence at USC, as described in the Undergraduate Requirements for Graduation. For additional information about transferable coursework, see USC Transfer Credit Services.
Are there scholarships for incoming transfer students?
While the Chan Division does not offer scholarships to incoming BS–OTD transfers, students are encouraged to apply for USC University-wide scholarships (e.g., the Norman Topping Student Aid Fund) and external awards. Once accepted, the Division has a variety of scholarship awards for current/continuing students.
When can I apply for Chan Division scholarships?
Once you are enrolled and have completed at least one semester of coursework, you can apply for continuing student awards for undergraduate students, USC Chan Division Merit-Based Support, and the Occupational Therapy Student Research Fund (OTSRF). Rising fifth-year students are eligible for Entry-Level OTD Named Scholarship and Fellowship Awards. Additionally, various student worker positions are available each year.
