Yousef Babish PhD ’29

Hometown: Bethlehem, Palestine
Program: PhD in Occupational Science, Class of 2029

With which faculty member/lab will you be doing your PhD? What is your interest in this topic/area?

Joy L. Agner

Why did you decide to pursue your PhD in Occupational Science?

I chose this path because I wanted a place where my lived experience, my questions about culture, and my commitment to community care could take academic form. Growing up in Palestine shaped how I see occupation, place, and identity. Occupational Science gave me a framework that matched what I had been trying to name for years.

What are you most looking forward to, and/or what has been the most rewarding part of being in the PhD program?

I look forward to building deeper collaborations with mentors and communities who trust us with their stories. Working in the Health Equity Action Lab (HEAL) and engaging in projects tied to mental health, community building, and place making have all shown me how research can open space for connection and meaningful change.
