Risk-stratified self-management care for colorectal cancer survivors: A new approach to increasing adherence to health behavior recommendations
Principal Investigator: Alix G. Sleight PhD, OTD, MPH, OTR/L
Colorectal cancer (CRC) mortality is linked to modifiable health behaviors such as physical activity, alcohol intake, and diet; however, <10% of CRC survivors adhere to health behavior recommendations (HBR) after diagnosis. In non-cancer populations, personalized self-management training programs have been associated with increased adherence to HBR when compared to standardized interventions, but a personalized approach to lifestyle self-management has not yet been tested in a cancer population. This prospective, two-parallel-arm, randomized controlled trial will test whether a personalized self-management training intervention improves adherence to HBR among CRC patients when compared to a standardized health behavior education control.
