Cancer Survivorship, Health, and Life Transitions (C-SHIFT)
Director: Alix G. Sleight PhD, OTD, MPH, OTR/L
The overarching goal of the C-SHIFT lab is to optimize health and quality of life for people with a history of cancer. Our research aims to better understand the lived experiences of cancer survivors, in addition to developing and testing innovative clinical interventions to facilitate well-being and promote the sustainable integration of health behavior recommendations into everyday routines after cancer. Research in the C-SHIFT lab focuses on:
- Qualitative research investigating the everyday experiences, strengths, and challenges of people with a history of cancer
- Clinical trials testing the feasibility and efficacy of occupational therapy health self-management interventions to increase sustainable adherence to health behavior recommendations (e.g., diet, physical activity) in cancer survivors
- Development of novel, occupation-based interventions (e.g., self-generated ceremony) to facilitate optimal integration of major life transitions (e.g., surviving cancer) into new roles, routines, and identities
