During the Division’s 2012 Homecoming Weekend on November 9 and 10, alumni, students and friends gathered to open new clinical learning laboratories, celebrate a milestone anniversary, hear the latest from faculty, and celebrate together as the Trojan Family.

At the USC Center for Health Professions, the Dean of the Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC, Avishai Sadan, offered congratulatory remarks to the audience and, together with Division board of councilors chairperson Linda Florey and Division associate dean Florence Clark, cut the ceremonial cardinal ribbon to officially open the newly renovated Pediatric Laboratory and the Rehabilitation & Technology Laboratory.

During the associate dean’s lunch reception hosted on the Broad Lawn, Clark reminisced upon the 70th anniversary of USC Occupational Therapy, which was established at the university in 1942, and recognized esteemed guests in attendance Florence Cromwell and Elizabeth Yerxa. Cromwell (MA ’52) served two terms as President of the American Occupational Therapy Association from 1967 to 1973 and was Acting Chair of the USC Department of Occupational Therapy from 1974 to 1976. Yerxa was named the Department Chair in 1976 and played a central role in initiating the world’s first PhD program in Occupational Science at USC in 1989.

The afternoon lineup included Continuing Education lectures from Assistant Professor Natalie Leland and Professor Sharon Cermak, as well as a cocktail social reception at Magnolia in downtown Los Angeles.

On the following day’s clear and breezy autumn morning, alumni and students joined in the tailgating festivities with the Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC on the University Park Campus. A crowd of more than 60,000 Trojan faithful gathered in the LA Memorial Coliseum to cheer on the Trojans football team as they handily beat the Arizona State Sun Devils.
