Clinical faculty members from the USC Chan Division of Occupational Science currently practice throughout the hospitals and clinics of Keck Medical Center of USC, providing cutting-edge quality care to patients, in addition to top of the line education for students and residents.
About the residency
OTD Residents at Keck Medical Center of USC have the opportunity to participate in our AOTA Physical Rehabilitation Fellowship Program alongside USC’s post-professional Doctorate in Occupational Therapy (OTD) program. This unique experience aims to cultivate a collective of highly skilled occupational therapy leaders through exposure to and participation in highly dynamic, complex and challenging practice settings.
This Residency program is offered in a variety of locations across Keck Medical Center of USC, spanning the continuum of care:
- Acute Inpatient Floors at Keck Hospital of USC and USC Norris Cancer Hospital
Clients served include those receiving care from approximately 50 specialty and subspecialty service lines, such as Cardiothoracic Surgery, Hematology/Oncology, Neurology, Orthopedic Surgery, Palliative Medicine, Urology, Transplant, and more. The Keck Hospital of USC occupational therapy department provides intensive, skilled therapy spanning from the intensive care units to preparation for community re-integration. - Acute Rehabilitation Unit at Keck Hospital of USC
Clients served include those referred from Keck Hospital of USC, USC Norris Cancer Hospital, and external facilities, encompassing all service lines as stated above. The ARU meets regulatory standards required by the Center for Medicare Services to provide intensive, skilled therapy for patients who qualify for rehabilitation services. - Outpatient Hand Therapy Clinic at Keck Medical Center of USC Healthcare Center
Clients served include those who have experienced injury, trauma, disorders, and/or diseases to the upper extremity. Residents are provided appropriate supervision under California advanced practice designation for hand therapy. Residents typically make progress towards their advance practice designation in hand therapy (HTC) and physical agent modalities (PAMs). - Outpatient Services at Keck Medical Center of USC
Clients served include those with neurological injury, lymphedema, cardiac or pulmonary diagnosis or transplant, and those experiencing symptoms of long Covid.
Program requirements
Residents must complete a portfolio in collaboration with mentors and clinical preceptors as a representation and culmination of their work and efforts. In addition to the OTD degree, those that complete the requirements for the Keck Medical Center of USC Physical Rehabilitation Fellowship Program will receive a designation as having completed a fellowship at an approved AOTA Fellowship Site, and have the opportunity to apply for Board Certification at an earlier date.
Financial support
This opportunity offers financial support including 24 units of paid tuition, a paid student worker position, as well as health and dental insurance and the student health center fee.
