The purpose of the prerequisites is to provide you with a knowledge base that you can readily access as you attend courses in the program — thus the requirement that they be completed no earlier than seven (7) years before enrollment. If you feel that, in addition to completed coursework, you have had continued study and/or experience that has allowed you to retain the knowledge you acquired, you can request a waiver below .
If you do not have continued coursework and/or relevant subsequent experience, please plan to retake the course in question. When you complete the OTCAS application, you will have the opportunity to identify the course(s) you have taken that you would like the admissions committee to consider for each prerequisite for our program.

The purpose of the prerequisite is to provide the learner with an overview of the anatomical parts and function of the human body in sufficient detail that the student will be prepared to proceed on to successful completion of our kinesiology, neurology, pediatrics and physical disabilities coursework.
Coursework should cover all body systems.

Anatomy courses may be completed in-person or online. Online anatomy courses must include one of the following components: Virtual 3D interactive dissection software/prosection; Animal dissection; At-home cadaveric dissection.

Combined Anatomy and Physiology
If Anatomy and Physiology are combined, you must have taken either: 1) one combined Anatomy and Physiology course with laboratory worth 6-8 semester or 10 quarter units; or 2) two sequential semesters of combined Anatomy and Physiology at the same school, totaling 6-8 semester units with a laboratory each semester.

Abnormal Psychology
The purpose of this prerequisite is for students to have an understanding of recognized psychological disorders. Students should also understand what the DSM is, and be able to use the DSM to access information on psychological disorders.
The class must have covered issues impacting all ages.

Sociology / Cultural Anthropology
The purpose of this prerequisite is for students to understand how society and culture can impact individuals and how researchers investigate this relationship. It is also important for students to understand critiques of past and present concepts of societies and cultures and to understand critiques of research on society and culture. The Admissions Committee is looking for an introductory-level course that investigates these topics broadly.

Medical Terminology
The purpose of this prerequisite is for students to familiarize themselves with the language of medicine. This includes word structure (word roots, suffixes, prefixes), ability to analyze unfamiliar medical terminology using word structure, understand appropriate abbreviations, understand medical documentation and billing and identify various anatomical systems and disease processes. This course ensures students will have the knowledge base to successfully participate in courses such as neuroscience, kinesiology, physical disabilities and rehabilitation as well as fieldwork immersions.
Coursework should have been completed no earlier than 7 years before planned enrollment and for at least 1 semester unit .

Developmental Psychology / Human Development
The purpose of this prerequisite is for students to have an understanding of typical human development throughout the lifespan, including developmental milestones and normal developmental processes related to psychology and the physical aging process.
