Many of USC Chan’s international students from India hosted a Diwali Celebration today during lunchtime, sharing traditional foods such as chakali (a spiral snack made of rice flour, chickpea, and black gram), burfi (a sweet milk-based dessert), laddos (ball-shaped sweets made with wheat flour), and bakarwadi (a deep-fried sweet and spicy snack).
Prutha Satpute, a current OTD student originally from Maharashtra shared, “Diwali symbolizes victory of light over dark, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. As a community of international students at USC, we overcame the dark challenges of COVID, racial injustices, and stressors of virtual schooling, and came together to celebrate this Festival of Lights with each other. Once again I was celebrating Diwali at ‘home’.”
