Division Professor Sharon Cermak and a team of co-investigators at USC and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles were recently awarded a two-year grant, totaling over a half million dollars, by the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research. The “Sensory Adapted Dental Environments” grant will collect information that will support a later clinical trial on the effectiveness of a specially adapted dental environment for children, including children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and typically developing children, who have difficulty tolerating oral care in the dental clinic.
