Occupational science PhD candidate Amanda Foran ’14 was interviewed by Ben Johnson for American Public Media’s Marketplace Morning Report as part of a series exploring video games and mental health.
“People with autism want to engage socially, they desire that interaction,” Foran told Johnson. “If we can utilize this technology to help make it a little more comfortable, people just blossom when they’re playing.” The interview aired on National Public Radio affiliate stations on Tuesday, December 3.
Foran and her advisor, Professor Sharon Cermak, are using active video games to examine the effects of physical activity and social participation in individuals with autism spectrum disorders.
