Hometown: Oriental Mindoro, Philippines
Program: Post-Professional Master’s, Class of 2021

What brought you to occupational therapy?
When I chose my college major back in the Philippines, I blindly went into Occupational Therapy knowing only one thing about it that I learned from a web search: “A healthcare profession that is both a science and an art.” I slowly learned about the art and science behind OT and finally fell in love with it when I reached my last year into the degree meeting unique individuals along my internship journey.

What area of practice are you interested in?
I am passionate about working with and for adults and adolescents with intellectual and developmental disabilities and the promotion of their independence and employment in the community, as well as mental health community reintegration.

What are some of the occupations you engage in?
I really enjoy engaging in yoga as a part of my routine, and also doing a bunch of crafts, particularly hand-embroidery and sewing during my free time.

If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?
Nepal! My ultimate bucket list includes trekking along the mountain ranges in the Himalayas and immersing into the rich culture of Nepal.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
I was once reminded that it’s okay to ask for help, and that it also takes courage to acknowledge that we need help sometimes. It was probably one of the most beautiful advice I’ve ever received and also a great reminder that we need to be a little kinder to ourselves too.
