The pervasive issue of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMSD) among sonographers was first reported in a professional editorial more than 30 years ago. Despite growing awareness, current evidence is limited to the prevalence and loose associations among risk factors and WRMSD — no longitudinal studies have been completed to examine the progression of WRMSD across time to fully evaluate contributors to improvement or decline in ultrasound user health and well-being. This project has developed a national registry of ultrasound users who will be engaged in an ongoing, longitudinal study that aims to understand the longitudinal progression of acute to chronic work-related musculoskeletal injuries among all users of ultrasound and begin to examine the impact of various work components related to worker health and well-being that have not previously been closely examined.
