Where did you receive your bachelor’s degree and in what major?
I received my bachelor’s degree in rehabilitation therapy (Direction: occupational therapy) from Sichuan University.

What do you like about occupational therapy?
Occupational therapy inspires me that human beings deserve to enjoy their life, including the people who are mentally and/or physically disabled due to different reasons. I am excited to be an occupational therapy practitioner and to use the knowledge and skills to help them and their family members participate in the occupations they need and want to do.

What is the focus of your current residency?
Fortunately, I can study in two residencies at the same time. One is a research track in the Innovations in Neurodevelopmental Sensory Processing Research (Insp!re) Lab; another is a clinical track in the Momentum Pediatric Therapy Network (MPTN). In the Insp!re Lab, the focuses are to learn the basic knowledge of research like video coding, to learn the knowledge of sensory integration, especially sensory cues, and to learn the interaction between parents and children. In the MPTN, the focuses are to learn how a multidisciplinary team works in the Leaps and Bounds Program, to learn processes of social skills sessions, to learn how therapists utilizing sensory processing and sensory integration in their practice, and also to learn some basic professional skills (i.e., clinical reasoning skills, writing observation note, treatment plan).

How do you plan to advance OT in China?
To advance OT in China, I have planned three steps. The first step is to adapt the learned knowledge such as sensory processing and sensory integration, therapeutic use of self in Chinese background, and accumulate experiences. In addition, I would also do research to fill the gaps I found during practice if possible. The second step is teaching. I would like to share my knowledge and experiences to those who are interested in sensory processing and sensory integration. The third step is advocacy. I will utilize the leadership skills to prioritize the distribution of fundings for children with special needs and also the working conditions of pediatric health professionals under the support of those who have the same goal.

What are your favorite occupation(s)?
My favorite occupations are cycling and road tripping. Cycling gives me a chance to explore beautiful moments in the cities that I used to ignore when commuting by the cars or buses. These moments make me feel warm and alive. Cycling also keeps me fit which helps me stay energetic and confident. Road trips give me a chance to visit all the places I am interested in and it allows me to stop at beautiful viewpoints and enjoy them without rush, which is really healing and soothing.
