Professor Shawn Roll is the recipient of the 2024 Distinguished Sonographer Award from the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine. Roll was honored at the institute’s annual conference in April.
Established in 1997, the Distinguished Sonographer Award recognizes and honors AIUM members who have significantly contributed to the growth and development of medical ultrasound. This annual presentation honors those who have made outstanding contributions to the development of medical ultrasound.
“I am humbled to receive this honor that has placed my name alongside luminaries and trailblazers in the profession,” Roll said. “This recognition affirms the vital role that sonography can have for occupational therapists and other rehabilitation professionals, and the reciprocal impact of occupational therapy in advancing the health and well-being of other professionals who use ultrasound.”
Roll directs the Musculoskeletal Sonography and Occupational Performance Lab, and has spearheaded numerous research endeavors to promote worker health and well-being and assess, prevent and rehabilitate work-related injuries. He is also the division’s director of research training and development. Roll was named a fellow of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (FAIUM) in 2019.
