Where did you receive your bachelor’s degree and in what major?
你在哪里获得你的本科学士学位, 主修什么专业?
I received my bachelor’s degree in rehabilitation therapy from Tianjin Medical University.

What do you like about occupational therapy?
Occupational therapy has healing power. It teaches me to look into life with beautiful eyes, to identify meaningful occupations and keep my passion along the journey of life. I used to be a pessimist. During the process of pursuing my master’s degree, I faced big challenges in both my courses and research. It was occupational therapy that helped me think more positively and appreciate the support and love around me.

What is the focus of your current residency?
For clinical track, my residency site is the hand clinic at the Keck Medicine of USC. By observing the evaluation and treatment sessions of hand therapy, I gained a deeper understanding of the recovery journey of different hand diseases. For research track, my residency is situated at the Musculoskeletal Sonography and Occupational Performance (MSOP) lab. My research project involves coding videos to analyze the exert force and wrist postures of dental hygiene students so as to prevent work-related musculoskeletal disorders.

How do you plan to advance OT in China?
The immersive experience in clinical residency has encouraged me to set up a comprehensive framework suitable to the medical regulation and management system in China, including but not limited to the standardized assessment procedure, the treatment documentation template, and the integration of home exercise programs. In addition, the transdisciplinary feature of my research residency inspires me to collaborate with different research teams from other professions to advocate for the special value of occupational therapy after going back to China. In turn, the dissemination of multidisciplinary scientific findings could potentially broaden the field of clinical practice.

What are your favorite occupation(s)?
My favorite occupation is hiking. I can see many different beautiful sceneries along the way. Exposure to nature makes me escape from the busy city life. The fresh air and cool breeze can change my mood for the better. When going hiking together with my friends, we always keep track of each other’s daily life and share interesting stories.
