osas.usc.edu
Office of Student Accessibility Services (OSAS) is the unit at USC responsible for ensuring equal access for students with disabilities in compliance with state and federal law. OSAS serves undergraduate, graduate and professional students; on-ground and on-line students; and students in all credit-granting courses and programs of study.
The OSAS team is committed to serving the USC community through: ensuring equal access, removing disability-related obstacles, supporting civil rights, and increasing education and awareness on behalf of students with disabilities.
Enrolled USC students may register with OSAS at any time. Current and incoming students are encouraged to connect with OSAS well before the start of a term so that any accommodations or services can be in place as early in the term as possible.
Religious/Spiritual Accommodations and Health Sciences Campus (HSC) Program Participation Requirements
Our graduate programs prepare students for professional practice in diverse settings. As part of your training, you will be required to:
- Engage fully in all scheduled classes, labs, clinical rotations, and examinations.
- Work with clients, patients, or peers of all sexes, genders, ages, etc.
- Participate in all learning activities and assessments as scheduled.
We recognize that these requirements may sometimes overlap with personal, cultural, or religious practices and observances. In accordance with California law, USC permits students to undergo any test or examination, without penalty, at a time when the exam would not violate the student’s religious creed, unless doing so would impose an undue hardship which could not reasonably have been avoided. At the start of the term, students should complete a Religious Accommodation Request Form and submit it to their instructors.
We also strive to foster a learning environment in which our students can freely practice their religion by providing religious accommodations to academic requirements beyond tests and examinations where possible. Please be mindful, however, that the university’s clinical degree programs include significant requirements, including clinical rotations and labs, for which alterations to the requirements may not be feasible. Students are strongly encouraged to contact their program director prior to the start of each semester to discuss how best to balance spiritual life with program requirements.
The Office of Religious and Spiritual Life is available to assist students in navigating these conversations.
